The Department of Justice and Equality launches consultation on hate speech

Posted on

The Department of Justice and Equality have launched a public consultation on how existing hate speech legislation in Ireland can be improved. ICOS welcomes this important consultation and encourages people who have experienced or witnessed hate speech to engage or contact ICOS for its submission. ICOS hopes that this forms part of a larger reform and the introduction of hate crime legislation, which has been long called for.

The government will also be meeting with the UN later this month to review Ireland’s adherence to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD).
