ICOS calls for immediate clarification on the closure of Student Campus Limerick

Posted on

The Irish Council for International Students (ICOS) is calling for urgent  action to support the hundreds of international students affected by the closure of Student Campus Limerick. Three weeks after the schools closed,  affected students remain without clear information from either the school's owners or the relevant authorities about their future. This has left many students in an unacceptable state of uncertainty.

ICOS has been contacted by hundreds of students from Student Campus Limerick seeking guidance on their immigration status, their studies, Learner Protection arrangements, and the fees they have paid. Many students remain in limbo, unsure of what they should do next and increasingly anxious about the impact on their future in Ireland.

The seriousness of the situation is further highlighted by the fact that the Embassy of Chile has contacted ICOS seeking information on behalf of affected Chilean students, including  what steps are being  taken to address this matter.

Commenting on the situation, Orla Lehane, Executive Director of ICOS, said:

‘International students came to Ireland in good faith to study, and they deserve to be treated with fairness, transparency, and respect. Instead, hundreds of students have been left in limbo, with no clear information about their studies, their immigration status, or what happens next. This uncertainty is causing unnecessary stress and anxiety.

We are calling on the Department of Justice and all relevant authorities to provide urgent clarity on the protections available to these students and the steps being taken to resolve this situation. Students have now been without classes for three weeks.  This is completely unacceptable and risks undermining confidence in Ireland as a destination for international education.’

Affected students must be protected from financial loss, immigration difficulties, and any other disadvantage arising from circumstances beyond their control.
